One of the highlights of our Bible Lands Exploration 2016 happened on Day 7.
We came to see Jerusalem, a very controversial city these days!
While on the bus moving closer to the city, the first thing that captured our eyes was the “Dome of the Rock.”
As we got off the bus, we posed to take our group photos. All of us were excited to walk where Jesus walked on that day!
Our itinerary list included:
- Mt. Olives
- Palm Sunday Road
- Tower of David
Have a look!
After our picture taking, we walked towards a tree-shaded place facing Mt. Olives and had a short introduction about Jerusalem there.
Our walk where Jesus walked started as we trod the Palm Sunday Road, which eventually led us to the “Garden of Gethsemane”. The garden you are seeing in the first photo in the collage below shows where Jesus is said to have agonized in prayer before His crucifixion.
Beside that garden is a huge church called “Church of All Nations” or “Basilica of Agony”. There, pilgrims can observe mosaics portraying a few scenarios in the Garden of Gethsemane before Christ’s crucifixion. Here are a few shots of what pilgrims see inside.
Before heading to have lunch at Genesis Land, we attended a Baptist Church pastored by Rev. Atif Himadeh. It is a 30-plus-year-old church which continues to thrive by God’s grace.
After our fellowship with the church people in FBBC, we finally arrived at Genesis Land, the place that became one of my favorite stops. There, we had a sumptuous lunch after having a camel ride guided by Actor Eliezer, Patriach Abraham’s assistant!
Our tour continued in the Western Wall Tunnel. We were oriented on how this was structure was connected to Jerusalem’s history. Inside, we were told and shown the archaeological findings like large stone arches, water pits, ancient aqueducts and so on.
Soon after finishing the tour in the Western Wall Tunnel, we treaded Via Dolorosa to get to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
We headed back to our hotel after that and made sure we had a restful night for our next day’s journey.
Our itinerary on Day 7 was a humbling reminder on God’s humbling story of love toward mankind. You can guess that the Garden of Gethsamane was also my favorite highlight on Day 7.
Indeed, places around the world are full of reminders of God’s magnificent glory. What did you realize from your recent vacation? Share them withbus in the comment box below!
